Britons are living longer, making it more important than ever to start planning early for retirement, a leading financial advisor says.
Financial services provider Edward Jones says that being clear about the costs and style of the retirement you desire is vital in order to execute a plan to achieve those goals.
Brian Potter, financial adviser and stockbroker for Edward Jones in Guildford, said that it is important to take a long-term view when investing for retirement.
"It's never too early to start investing for retirement. The earlier investments are made, the more time they have to grow and reap the proven benefits of a long-term investment strategy."
Mr Potter also warned of the need to plan wisely as the pressures on the pension sector in coming years would be greater with an ageing population and longer life expectancy.
Senior official at the Pensions Regulator, Charlie Massey, recently told the Financial Times: "We do believe that schemes are underestimating how longevity will continue to improve in the future".
